What Can I Expect?

Who Can Join?

Volunteers of all experience are welcome, whether you’re a seasoned jazz soloist or a beginner. Because our repertoire currently focuses on jazz and traditional pop standards, volunteers should be comfortable following sheet music and/or chord sheets, depending on the song. However, this is the only real requirement.

These performances are a very casual, low-stakes environment. If you are looking to gain experience playing in a group, have fun playing some music, or to just socialize, you are welcome to join!

Scheduling

As a group, we typically schedule performances with care facilities on a monthly basis.

Once we get confirmation from each of the facilities we plan on performing at, we will reach out to each volunteer with a setlist (typically including lead sheets or chord sheets) and organize an optional rehearsal.

Rehearsals

We typically run a short rehearsal a few days in advance of each performance. These rehearsals are optional, but they are a good opportunity to practice as a group and ask questions.

Don’t worry about learning every song on the list, especially on such short notice. Just learn the songs that interest you!

Performances

Our performances are typically 35-50 minutes long (roughly 6-10 songs.) These performances are a casual, relaxed environment, and as stated previously, we do not expect you to play every single song in the set list.

On performance days, volunteers typically arrive a little early (10-15 minutes) to set up and run through any details before we begin.

How Often Do I Have to Perform?

There is no minimum number of performances that volunteers must attend. Whether you join us regularly or just for a single performance, your contribution will be greatly appreciated!
